Hyundai Motor India officially inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, on October 14, 2026, with Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis present at the ceremony. This new plant represents a significant investment of up to Rs 11,000 crore, which will be implemented in phases to boost production capabilities and accommodate future vehicle models.

This inauguration follows Hyundai Motor Group's announcement of a USD 15.5 billion investment program for India, set to span from 2026 to 2032. Additionally, Hyundai is commemorating its 30-year presence in India, having achieved nearly 1 crore domestic passenger vehicle sales and 40 lakh cumulative exports since its operations began.

Currently, the Pune plant has an annual production capacity of 1.70 lakh vehicles, which is expected to rise to 3.20 lakh units by 2030. When combined with the Chennai facility, Hyundai's total manufacturing capacity in India will reach approximately 11.4 lakh vehicles annually. The Pune site also features an engine shop capable of producing 1.50 lakh engines each year, supporting the vehicle assembly process.

Hyundai's flexible production system at the Pune plant will allow for the manufacturing of both internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid vehicles in the future. This capability is crucial as Hyundai expands its product range in India. The company is collaborating with seven prominent Indian research institutes on about 40 projects focused on battery technology and electrification.

Looking ahead, Hyundai has not specified which hybrid models will be produced at the Pune facility or the timeline for their introduction. However, there is speculation regarding the next-generation Creta Hybrid, anticipated to launch in India in 2027, which could mark Hyundai's first hybrid offering in the country. The Pune plant is poised to play a vital role in Hyundai's manufacturing strategy and global supply chain, particularly in light of its recent achievements in exports and domestic sales.
