In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai on October 11, 2026, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police have implemented a series of traffic diversions aimed at facilitating smoother transit and ensuring public safety. The restrictions will be active from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., affecting various routes across the city.
The traffic management plan includes significant diversions for commercial and heavy vehicles. For instance, vehicles traveling from Tambaram on GST Road will be redirected at Tiruneermalai Junction towards Kundrathur Road. Similarly, those coming from Pallavaram will be diverted at the International Airport Junction, near Hotel Airway, towards Tambaram.
Additional diversions will impact routes from Koyambedu on the Jawaharlal Nehru 100 Feet Road towards Kathipara Bridge, where vehicles will be redirected at Ashok Nagar Second Avenue. Traffic from Ashok Pillar will be diverted at CIPET Junction towards the Guindy Industrial Estate. On Mount Poonamallee Road, diversions will occur at Porur Toll Plaza and Ramapuram Junction for heavy vehicles.
The traffic police have emphasized the importance of adhering to these diversion routes and have encouraged motorists, the public, and transport operators to plan their travels accordingly. This initiative aims to minimize inconvenience during the restricted hours and maintain orderly traffic flow throughout the city.
As the date approaches, authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Motorists are advised to stay informed about the latest traffic advisories to ensure a smooth journey during this significant event.
