Six Delhi Metro Stations Closed Until 4 PM Following Supreme Court Directive
In a surprising move, six Delhi Metro stations will remain closed until 4 PM today for security reasons, just a day after the Supreme Court mandated normal operations.
Six stations, including Patel Chowk and Rajiv Chowk, are closed until 4 PM.
The Supreme Court had recently ordered the restoration of normal metro services.
Interchange facilities at the affected stations will remain operational.
In an unexpected development, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the closure of six metro stations until 4 PM today, citing security concerns. This decision comes just a day after the Supreme Court directed that metro and railway services in Delhi should operate normally, emphasizing that peaceful protesters cannot be detained unlawfully.
The stations affected by this closure include Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Barakhamba Road. The DMRC stated that security agencies would continue to assess the situation, and updates would be provided to the public as necessary. Importantly, interchange facilities at these stations will remain available for commuters.
Previously, on Saturday, the DMRC had ordered the closure of 45 metro stations across the capital, following a reprimand from the Supreme Court. Initially, 57 stations were set to be shut down due to protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party. However, the apex court intervened, instructing authorities to lift blanket restrictions on metro and railway services ahead of the protests.
The Supreme Court's recent directives included restoring normal operations of public transport, ensuring uninterrupted internet services, and allowing free movement of individuals. The court emphasized that security measures should not lead to a complete ban on public transport, which would inconvenience millions of residents.
Looking ahead, the DMRC will continue to monitor the situation closely, and further announcements regarding the status of the metro services are expected. Commuters are advised to stay informed through official channels for any updates regarding the reopening of the affected stations.
