The Indian stock market experienced a significant downturn on Monday, with the Sensex dropping 521.64 points, or 0.71%, to close at 72,602.19. The Nifty index also fell, settling at 22,422.60, down 177.40 points or 0.78%. This decline was primarily attributed to a sell-off in IT shares, which have been under pressure due to concerns over revenue forecasts and inflationary pressures from rising crude oil prices.

The IT sector was notably affected, with stocks declining by 2.3%. Infosys, a major player in this sector, saw its shares plummet by 3.4% after it revised its annual revenue growth forecast downward. The company cited weakness in its key North American market as a significant factor impacting its performance, overshadowing its otherwise higher-than-expected revenue figures.

In addition to the IT sector's struggles, crude oil prices have also been a concern for investors. Brent crude futures traded at approximately $114 per barrel, easing from a recent high of $117. Despite this slight decrease, ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly attacks on Saudi Arabia, continue to raise supply concerns, contributing to inflation worries in the Indian market.

Market analysts highlight that the current selling pressure on the Nifty 50 index is significant, with immediate resistance observed in the 22,750–22,800 range. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted that a sustained breakout above this zone could stabilize the index and potentially lead to a recovery towards the psychological 23,000 mark. Conversely, immediate support is identified at 22,400–22,300, and a breakdown below this level could intensify selling pressure, pushing the index further down towards 22,200–22,000.

Looking ahead, investors are closely monitoring the upcoming policy decision from the US Federal Reserve, which is expected to influence market sentiment. The cautious outlook remains as traders await clearer signals on interest rates and economic policy, with a focus on how these factors may affect the Indian markets in the near future.
