The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several regions in Delhi, including North Delhi, North West Delhi, West Delhi, and South West Delhi, due to anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall. This alert was announced around 5:45 PM on October 29, coinciding with the festival of Karwa Chauth, when many women traditionally wait for the moon to break their fast.

The weather forecast indicates that cloudy conditions may obscure the moon, raising concerns among those observing the festival. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Central Delhi, North East Delhi, and South East Delhi, while Gurugram is under a yellow alert until 6 PM. The expected minimum temperature for the day is around 19 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius.

Navdeep Dhaiya, an amateur meteorologist, has cautioned that the ongoing rain and cloud cover could significantly impact the moon sighting, which is crucial for Karwa Chauth celebrations. He noted that varying intensities of rain are expected throughout the day across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh, making it unlikely for the moon to be visible at night.

The moon is expected to rise in Delhi between 8:11 PM and 8:17 PM, but the overcast conditions may prevent many from witnessing this event. The unsettled weather could disrupt traditional rituals associated with the festival, as women typically await the moon's appearance to conclude their fast.

Looking ahead, the weather in Delhi is predicted to remain variable, with moderate rain expected on October 30 and temperatures ranging from a minimum of 17 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius. Clearer skies are anticipated starting November 1, with temperatures stabilizing between 17 and 30 degrees Celsius in the following days.
