Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of development initiatives in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on October 31, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The total investment for these projects exceeds Rs 426 crore, focusing on enhancing tourism and infrastructure around the Statue of Unity, which is recognized as the tallest statue in the world.

The unveiling included 31 projects, with over Rs 307.83 crore worth inaugurated and foundation stones laid for additional projects totaling Rs 118.88 crore. Key attractions introduced in this initiative comprise a new IRCTC hotel costing Rs 50 crore, the Ekta Cruise valued at Rs 16 crore, a rainforest development project at Rs 14.30 crore, and an eco trail for Rs 3.67 crore. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the tourist experience in the region.

In addition to new attractions, several infrastructure projects were inaugurated, including a sewage treatment plant for Rs 45.53 crore and a water treatment facility costing Rs 21.40 crore. A parade track and related amenities were also dedicated, developed at a cost of Rs 23.81 crore. To facilitate visitor movement, a travelator worth Rs 28.22 crore was constructed. Other notable projects include a Rs 23 crore colony road and staff quarters built for Rs 14.25 crore, aimed at easing traffic and supporting tourism staff.

The developments are not limited to attractions and infrastructure; they also encompass enhancements to the area's aesthetics, such as new fountains and improved landscaping around the Statue of Unity. A new exhibition, Ekta Prakash Parv, has been established to celebrate India's national unity and cultural heritage, alongside upgrades to the Unity Glow Garden. Additionally, two new air-conditioned electric buses have been introduced to improve transportation within the site.

Looking ahead, the foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 118.88 crore were laid, including the Gora Bhandra Road project and the Khalwani Bridge development. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy by the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, to position Ekta Nagar and the Statue of Unity as a premier global tourism destination. The ongoing efforts aim to expand tourism infrastructure, enhance visitor facilities, and create new attractions to draw more tourists to the region.
