A wedding in Bhandup, Mumbai, took a distressing turn when over 30 guests, including the bride and groom, fell ill after consuming food served at the event. The alarming situation unfolded as guests began experiencing severe symptoms, prompting families to rush them to Agarwal Hospital, a facility operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety, leading the affected families to call for an investigation by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe is expected to oversee the inquiry, with families demanding stringent action against the catering service responsible for the meal. Witnesses reported that symptoms began to manifest after the caterer served khowa, a milk-based dish, towards the end of the festivities.

Medical staff at Agarwal Hospital confirmed that they have admitted 27 patients, comprising 11 women, nine men, and seven children. Many of the patients presented with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting, with some experiencing severe abdominal pain. Fortunately, the medical officer indicated that the patients' conditions are currently stable and they are under observation.

Relatives of the affected guests expressed their shock and anger, alleging that the catering service provided substandard or stale food. One family member recounted how the vomiting began among the women shortly after the meal was served, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability. They highlighted that the caterer charged Rs 1.5 lakh for the food, raising questions about the quality of the service provided.

As the families await the results of the investigation, they are advocating for the cancellation of the caterer's license if negligence is confirmed. This incident not only highlights the importance of food safety at large gatherings but also calls for stricter regulations to protect public health during such events.
