Jharkhand Constable Arrested for Rape Inside Police Station

A police constable in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district has been arrested after a woman accused him of raping her inside the Gamharia police station. The incident took place on the night of October 29, when the victim had approached the police to lodge a complaint following a domestic dispute with her husband. Upon arriving at the police station, she was provided a room to rest, where the alleged assault occurred.

Following the serious allegations, Superintendent of Police Manoj Swargiary ordered an investigation led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anubhav Bhardwaj. The inquiry revealed sufficient evidence to warrant the arrest of the constable, who has been identified as a wireless operator at the station. He has since been remanded to judicial custody, while the police have also seized his clothing from the time of the incident for forensic examination.

In addition to the arrest, five police officers, including the officer-in-charge of the Gamharia police station, have been suspended for their failure to uphold their duties. This decision was made in light of their neglect and the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has raised serious concerns about police conduct in the region.

The case has sparked significant outrage, with opposition parties criticizing the state government for the rising number of such incidents. BJP Jharkhand president Aditya Sahu stated that the police administration operates without fear, alleging that officers often secure their positions through corrupt practices. He emphasized that this has led to a loss of public trust in the ruling coalition of the JMM, Congress, and RJD.

As the investigation continues, authorities are under pressure to ensure accountability and restore faith in the police force. The forensic analysis of the seized evidence is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing legal proceedings against the accused constable.
