In a sweeping administrative overhaul, the Jammu and Kashmir Government executed a transfer of 100 senior police officers on Friday, marking a substantial shift in the leadership across various police units and specialized wings within the Union Territory. This reshuffle, which includes officers from both the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS), is effective immediately, as per the order issued by the Home Department.
Among the notable appointments, Danesh Rana, a senior IPS officer previously awaiting posting, has been designated as the Managing Director of the J-K Police Housing Corporation, taking over from S.J.M. Gillani. Additionally, Garib Dass has been elevated to the role of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Homeguards, Civil Defence, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), while Dr. Mohd Haseeb Mughal has been appointed as the Director of the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur.
The reshuffle also saw Abdul Jabbar appointed as Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Armed Police Jammu, with Shahid Mehraj Rather taking on the role of IGP for Technical Services in J-K, while retaining his responsibilities as Director of Police Telecommunications. Rayees Mohammad Bhat has transitioned from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CID Kashmir to DIG at CID Headquarters in J-K, reflecting a strategic reallocation of expertise within the department.
At the district level, significant changes have been made, including the appointment of new Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in various districts. Sudhanshu Dhama has taken over as SSP for Kupwara, while other districts such as Ganderbal, Sopore, Ramban, and Poonch have also seen new appointments. The traffic police establishment has not been overlooked, with Bisma Qazi appointed as SSP for Traffic City Srinagar, replacing Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, who has been reassigned as Commandant of the 23rd Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police India Reserve Battalion.
This extensive reshuffle not only affects the senior-level administration but also encompasses district policing, traffic management, intelligence, and specialized operations within the police department. The immediate implementation of these transfers is expected to enhance operational efficiency and address the evolving challenges within the Union Territory's law enforcement framework.
