A note claiming a hijack threat caused an IndiGo flight to return shortly after takeoff from Bengaluru.
A hijack threat note was discovered on IndiGo flight 6E 451.
The flight, carrying 178 passengers, returned to Bengaluru for security checks.
Authorities declared the note a hoax after a thorough 90-minute search.
On Saturday evening, an IndiGo flight en route from Bengaluru to Lucknow was forced to return to the airport due to a hijack threat note discovered in the aircraft's toilet. Flight 6E 451, which had taken off from Kempegowda International Airport at approximately 5:50 PM, was carrying 178 passengers when the alarming note was found about 30 minutes into the flight.
The note, which stated that the plane would be hijacked at 6:30 PM, was reported by a passenger who entered the toilet and alerted the cabin crew. The crew promptly informed the pilot, leading to the decision to return to Bengaluru for safety reasons. Upon landing, security agencies conducted a comprehensive search of the aircraft and its passengers.
According to a senior police officer, after a meticulous 90-minute investigation, the note was deemed a hoax. The IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that the airline had followed standard operating procedures by notifying the relevant authorities and prioritizing passenger safety throughout the ordeal.
In response to the situation, IndiGo took measures to alleviate passenger discomfort by providing refreshments and regular updates during the delay. The airline emphasized its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of its customers and crew.
Following the incident, questions have arisen regarding the handling of similar hoax threats in the future. As the flight later resumed its journey, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and protocol in aviation security.
