During the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's robust economic growth, despite challenges posed by the ongoing crisis in West Asia. He announced that the nation aims to add approximately 500 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity over the next 10 to 11 years, reinforcing India's commitment to sustainable energy development.

Modi highlighted that India has already installed nearly 300 GW of non-fossil power capacity, significantly ahead of its Paris Agreement commitments. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in achieving the ambitious target of 500 GW by 2030, stating that the clean energy sector could attract investments exceeding Rs 20 lakh crore (around USD 220 billion) by the decade's end, as the country expands its renewable energy generation and infrastructure.

The Prime Minister pointed out that over half of India's installed power capacity now derives from non-fossil sources, a milestone achieved five years ahead of the 2030 deadline. He articulated the importance of energy security, linking it directly to economic stability, particularly in light of the global energy crisis exacerbated by geopolitical tensions. Modi argued that reliance on fossil fuels poses risks to economic continuity and that renewable energy presents a more stable and abundant alternative.

India has seen substantial investments in renewable energy, totaling over Rs 15 lakh crore in the last decade. The sector has garnered around Rs 6 lakh crore in investments since the 2024 RE-INVEST Summit. Modi urged investors to consider India as a prime destination for renewable energy investments, citing the country's political stability and favorable policies as key advantages.

The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit, which runs from November 2 to 5, 2026, is expected to attract participants from over 130 countries, including numerous ministers and industry leaders. The event will coincide with the 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen, further underscoring India's commitment to leading in the renewable energy sector.
