Delhi Police Protest Transfers of Key Officers on November 2
On November 2, 2026, Delhi Police personnel protested outside headquarters against the transfers of two officers following a controversial incident.
Protesters demanded reinstatement of transferred officers ACP Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar.
The protest was sparked by a scuffle at Shahdara police station that led to calls for officer accountability.
Senior officers urged personnel to use official channels instead of public demonstrations to voice their concerns.
On November 2, 2026, a significant protest unfolded outside the Delhi Police Headquarters as personnel gathered to express their discontent over the transfers of Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar. This move came in the wake of a scuffle at the Shahdara police station on October 23, where an advocate reportedly suffered a head injury, prompting demands for accountability from district court lawyers.
Approximately 100 police personnel, including women officers, participated in the demonstration, holding placards and demanding the reinstatement of their colleagues. The transfers, which were officially announced on October 28, were seen as a direct response to the lawyers' demands following the incident at Shahdara. The protestors insisted on a meeting with the Police Commissioner to discuss their grievances, despite attempts by senior officers, including DCP Sachin Sharma, to persuade them to disperse.
Messages circulated within police WhatsApp groups encouraged personnel to rally in support of the transferred officers, leading to a substantial turnout. Senior officials had instructed district DCPs and unit heads to prevent their staff from joining the protest, but the demonstration proceeded as planned. DCP Sharma emphasized the need for discipline among the police force and urged personnel not to act like protesters, yet the assembled officers remained resolute in their demands.
The protest echoed a similar incident in 2019 when over 2,000 police personnel gathered outside the headquarters following attacks on officers by lawyers. That protest concluded with assurances from senior officials regarding support for affected personnel. The current demonstration coincided with an upcoming interaction program scheduled by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu with police personnel, set for November 3 at Utsav Sadan, Kingsway Camp.
Earlier, on October 30, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar held a meeting with representatives from the Bar Council of Delhi, resulting in an agreement to create a joint mechanism for coordination and grievance redressal. The ongoing situation highlights the tensions between police personnel and the legal community, as well as the challenges faced by the Delhi Police in maintaining internal discipline while addressing external pressures.
