A devastating fire at a shoe manufacturing facility in Delhi's Mangolpuri Industrial Area resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left two others injured on Friday night. The fire broke out around 9:30 PM, prompting immediate action from firefighters and police who rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations.
Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered six people unconscious within the factory. They were swiftly transported to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where unfortunately, four were pronounced dead upon arrival. The remaining two victims are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
According to fire officer ADO Paras Kumar, the blaze originated in the basement of the factory, which is involved in the manufacturing and storage of footwear. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the basement area, preventing it from spreading further throughout the building. Kumar noted that heavy smoke made rescue efforts challenging, with one individual being rescued from a third-floor staircase and five others from the fourth floor.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikram Singh stated that the owner of the factory has been summoned for questioning regarding the incident. Authorities are also interviewing the contractor and workers to ascertain the number of laborers present at the time of the fire. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, with officials focusing on how the blaze began and spread upwards through the facility.
As the investigation continues, the local community is left reeling from the tragedy. The incident raises significant concerns about safety protocols in industrial settings, particularly regarding fire hazards. Further updates are expected as police and fire officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
