In a dramatic rescue operation, eight of the eleven personnel who went missing after their inflatable boats capsized in the swollen Bethupalli Peddacheruvu in Khammam district were successfully located by Thursday morning, November 5, 2026. The rescue efforts, which spanned the night, involved multiple agencies working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the missing individuals.
The incident unfolded on the evening of November 4, 2026, when two inflatable boats, carrying rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire Services, capsized while attempting to evacuate five fishermen stranded in floodwaters. The swift action of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) later led to the successful rescue of the fishermen, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Khammam Collector Divakara T.S., who oversaw the rescue operations, reported that five of the missing personnel were brought to safety by 3 a.m. on Thursday, with three others located later in the morning. The operation was marked by challenging conditions due to the swollen rivulet, which complicated the rescue efforts.
As of now, search operations continue for one remaining individual who is still unaccounted for. The authorities are committed to ensuring that all personnel are safely recovered, reflecting the dedication of the rescue teams involved in this critical operation.
Looking ahead, the focus will remain on locating the last missing rescuer, with ongoing support from various emergency services. The incident underscores the risks faced by rescue teams during flood situations and the importance of preparedness in such emergencies.
