Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashishta has been suspended for alleged disciplinary violations following a protest he led outside the Delhi Police headquarters on November 2, 2026. The protest was organized by police personnel in response to recent transfers of Vashishta and another officer after a confrontation with lawyers at the Shahdara police station.
The protest commenced early in the morning, with approximately 100 officers gathering at Gate No. 1 of the police headquarters. They demanded a meeting with Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to discuss the recent events surrounding the transfer of Vashishta and Arun Kumar, the Station House Officer. The transfers were a direct result of an indefinite strike initiated by local lawyers, who were dissatisfied with the police's handling of an assault case involving one of their colleagues.
During the demonstration, the police personnel articulated five key demands, including the establishment of a standard operating procedure for interactions with lawyers, limiting the number of lawyers allowed in police stations, and the registration of FIRs against lawyers accused of misconduct. They also requested the creation of a dedicated cell to handle complaints against lawyers and the deployment of police officers in courts to manage potential disturbances.
The implications of this protest extend beyond the immediate disciplinary actions against Vashishta. It highlights ongoing tensions between the police and legal professionals in Delhi, particularly regarding the treatment of lawyers in police facilities. The lawyers had previously accused Vashishta and Arun Kumar of threatening them during the incident that sparked the protests, leading to their demand for accountability.
Looking ahead, the situation remains fluid as discussions between police leadership and the protesting officers continue. The outcome of these negotiations may influence future interactions between the police and the legal community, as well as the operational protocols within police stations in Delhi.
