A tragic incident has unfolded involving 20-year-old Himashri Boro, a college student from Assam, whose body was discovered near railway tracks in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday. Boro had been traveling alone on a train after participating in a dance competition and had expressed concerns about her safety in a coach filled with inebriated men shortly before she went missing in the early hours of October 6.
Boro, a resident of Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam, had traveled to Visakhapatnam with a dance troupe. She was returning ahead of her peers due to an examination scheduled in Guwahati. According to her family, she boarded Train No. 22503 around 12:15 AM on October 6. CCTV footage confirmed her boarding the S-2 coach with a general ticket, accompanied by a local acquaintance named Avinash.
During her journey, Boro reached out to her sister-in-law and a friend, expressing discomfort due to the presence of drunk men in her compartment. She shared a video of the coach, highlighting the unsettling atmosphere. Contact with her family was lost between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM, prompting them to alert the railway helpline. Although Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were dispatched to investigate, they reported no success in locating her at that time.
The circumstances surrounding Boro's death are currently under investigation. Her body was found between the Ponduru and Dusi railway sections, and authorities have initiated an inquest and autopsy at Government RIMS Hospital in Srikakulam. The RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) are collecting statements from passengers and reviewing CCTV footage from various locations to piece together the events leading to her tragic demise.
In response to the incident, the Assam government has pledged to assist in the repatriation of Boro's body. Dimoria MLA Tapan Das stated that arrangements are being made for an autopsy in Assam, and efforts are underway to ensure her body is returned promptly without requiring family members to travel for the claim. The investigation continues as authorities seek to clarify the sequence of events that led to this heartbreaking outcome.
