In a shocking incident in Kowkoor, a former security guard named Vikram Kumar has been arrested for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a five-year-old girl, Aurelia, also known as Monu. The crime occurred shortly after Kumar's employment at the Villa Orchids residential community ended, with authorities apprehending him within 24 hours of the report. Police officials revealed that Kumar intended to extort ₹20 lakh from the girl's parents but resorted to murder when he deemed it challenging to keep her captive until the ransom was paid.
Aurelia was last seen on October 10, 2026, around 6 p.m., playing near the clubhouse in her residential complex. Concern arose when she failed to return home by 7 p.m., prompting her father, Milton Fernandes Moses, to report her missing. Shortly thereafter, the family received a ransom call from an unidentified individual demanding ₹20 lakh, claiming to have the child in Secunderabad. This led to the initiation of a kidnapping case by the Bolarum police, who deployed multiple special teams to locate the missing girl.
Investigators utilized mobile tracking, call records, and CCTV footage to trace the suspect. Despite initial searches yielding no results, the police intensified their efforts within the gated community. Tragically, Aurelia's body was discovered in a water sump in the clubhouse cellar, prompting forensic investigations to determine the circumstances of her death. Kumar was identified as the prime suspect after police examined his employment history and residential details.
Following his arrest on October 11, Kumar confessed to murdering Aurelia as part of his ransom scheme. He entered the gated community with the intention of kidnapping her, but after realizing the difficulties of holding her for ransom, he decided to kill her instead. The police have announced plans to expedite the investigation and seek capital punishment for Kumar in a fast-track court.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Villa Orchids, who gathered at the Malkajgiri Police Commissioner's office demanding justice and stricter measures to ensure child safety in gated communities. They expressed concerns about the security of children, emphasizing that parents should not have to fear for their children's safety while at work. In response, the police have urged residential associations to enhance background checks for security personnel and domestic helpers, highlighting the need for community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
