Amit Shah to Lead BJP's 'Save Democracy' March in Hyderabad on November 2
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will spearhead a BJP foot march in Hyderabad, countering Congress's recent rally against alleged electoral fraud.
Amit Shah will lead a padyatra in Hyderabad on November 2, following a Congress rally on November 1.
The BJP aims to address claims of voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
A second padyatra is scheduled in Karnal on November 5, focusing on the theme 'Save Democracy, End Anarchy.'
On November 2, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead a significant foot march in Hyderabad, organized by the BJP, just a day after the Congress holds a rally in Delhi to protest alleged electoral fraud. This event is part of the BJP's strategy to counter the opposition's narrative surrounding the electoral rolls and to rally support for its own campaign themes.
The march in Hyderabad, themed 'Loktantra Bachao - Arajakta Hatao' (Save Democracy, End Mobocracy), is a direct response to the Congress's November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan. Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao emphasized that the march aims to counteract what he describes as the Congress's attempts to incite unrest and spread misinformation regarding the electoral process.
Rao has publicly challenged Congress leaders to substantiate their claims regarding the alleged deletion of voters' names from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He stated that the BJP is prepared to demonstrate that the removals were due to legitimate reasons, including categories such as deceased individuals and those who have moved away. The BJP claims that out of 13 crore names cited by the opposition, a substantial number fall into these categories.
The political landscape in Telangana is tense, with the BJP and Congress at odds over the electoral roll revisions. Rao criticized Congress leaders for diverting attention from pressing local issues, such as the severe water shortages affecting over 300 mandals in the state, by participating in national political events. He urged them to focus on the immediate needs of their constituents instead.
Looking ahead, Amit Shah's participation in a second padyatra in Karnal on November 5 will further extend the BJP's outreach efforts. This event is also framed within the 'Save Democracy, End Anarchy' campaign, with preparations already underway. The BJP is keen to solidify its position and counteract the opposition's claims as the political climate heats up in the run-up to upcoming elections.
