An Air India flight traveling from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday following a bomb threat, as reported by news agency PTI. The flight, designated AI2030 and operated by a Boeing 787-9, executed an emergency landing at Jaipur International Airport, where it was moved to an isolation bay for thorough security checks.
The situation unfolded when airport authorities alerted police about the emergency landing triggered by the threat. Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiv Dayal confirmed that police and security personnel were deployed to inspect the aircraft in the isolation area. Preliminary reports indicated that the pilot had activated Squawk Code 7500, a transponder code recognized internationally as a signal for hijacking or unlawful interference, while the aircraft was in the Mumbai Flight Information Region.
Upon landing safely in Jaipur, the aircraft's pilots and passengers were deboarded in a controlled manner, ensuring security protocols were followed. The exact number of passengers on board was not disclosed immediately. Following the deboarding, both passengers and their luggage underwent security screening to ensure safety.
In response to the situation, ground teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), airport security, and local police established a perimeter around the isolation bay to conduct a thorough examination of the aircraft. Additionally, the National Security Guard (NSG) was placed on standby in New Delhi as a precautionary measure. Further information regarding the security alert and the investigation is awaited.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in August when an Air India Express flight from Dammam to Delhi made an emergency landing in Ahmedabad after a tissue paper with the word 'bomb' was discovered in the lavatory. All 32 passengers were safely evacuated at Terminal 2, highlighting ongoing security challenges in aviation.
