Transrail Lighting Limited has announced plans to acquire a 49% stake in NOPL Pace Green Energy Private Limited for an investment of Rs 200 million. This strategic move is part of a broader initiative to develop a substantial solar power portfolio of 990 MWac in Maharashtra, specifically aimed at solarizing agricultural feeders and ensuring reliable daytime electricity for irrigation purposes.
The solar projects are being developed under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which focuses on enhancing the agricultural sector's access to renewable energy. These initiatives are supported by a long-term power purchase agreement with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, guaranteeing a fixed tariff of Rs 3.10 per unit for a period of 25 years. The total estimated cost for the project is around Rs 39 billion, highlighting the scale of investment in renewable energy infrastructure in the region.
Transrail's acquisition is contingent upon receiving necessary regulatory approvals and fulfilling specific conditions outlined in the agreement. Furthermore, the transaction is structured to provide Transrail with both financial and project management oversight in collaboration with Onix Renewable Limited. This arrangement is expected to enhance operational efficiency and project execution.
In addition to the initial stake, Transrail has the option to increase its ownership to 100% in the future, contingent upon mutually agreed terms and the requisite approvals. This potential expansion underscores Transrail's commitment to playing a significant role in the renewable energy landscape of Maharashtra.
Looking ahead, the successful completion of this acquisition and the subsequent development of the solar portfolio could have far-reaching implications for the agricultural sector in Maharashtra. By providing reliable electricity for irrigation, the initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity and contribute to the state's overall energy transition towards sustainable sources.
