NCP accuses Abdul Sattar of undermining its candidate in Aurangabad.
Mahayuti alliance won only two out of five council seats in recent elections.
Calls for improved coordination among coalition partners ahead of future elections.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has publicly accused Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar of sabotaging its candidate's chances in the recent Legislative Council elections held on October 23. This accusation has intensified the internal discord within the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena. The NCP claims that Sattar's actions directly contributed to the defeat of its candidate, Satish Chavan, in the Aurangabad graduates' constituency.
In the aftermath of the elections, which concluded with the announcement of results this week, NCP chief spokesperson Umesh Patil expressed concerns over the lack of coordination among the coalition parties. He stated that if there were misunderstandings regarding Sattar's actions, they could have been addressed in a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena. Patil emphasized that the responsibility for the defeat should not rest solely on one individual and highlighted the need for better collaboration among the Mahayuti partners.
The recent elections saw the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) securing three out of the five available council seats, while the ruling Mahayuti alliance managed to win only two. This outcome has raised questions about the effectiveness of the coalition, with BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban also accusing Shiv Sena of failing to cooperate during the polls. Sattar himself confirmed that he campaigned against NCP's Chavan, following directives from his party leader, Minister Sanjay Shirsat.
Patil pointed out that the alliance's failure to secure a better outcome could have been mitigated with proper planning and coordination among the top leaders in the months leading up to the elections. He noted that discussions regarding election strategies and seat distribution should have occurred well in advance to avoid misunderstandings and ensure a united front.
Looking ahead, the NCP is calling for a reevaluation of the coalition's approach to future elections, stressing the importance of unity among the Mahayuti partners. With the recent electoral results highlighting significant internal issues, the coalition must address these challenges to improve its performance in upcoming elections. The next steps will involve strategic meetings among the alliance members to ensure better cooperation and coordination in future electoral endeavors.
