Maharashtra has proudly secured the second position among general category states in the Renewable Energy State Assessment Framework (RE-SAF) for the period 2025-26. This recognition underscores the state's commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives and reforming its power sector. The award was presented by Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan during the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, which took place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Thursday.

The award was accepted by Meghna Sakore-Bordikar, the Minister of State for Energy, along with Abha Shukla, the Additional Chief Secretary for Energy. They were joined by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and Minister of State Shripad Yesso Naik, highlighting the collaborative efforts behind this achievement. The recognition reflects Maharashtra's strategic initiatives aimed at expanding renewable energy generation and implementing significant reforms in the power sector.

To bolster its renewable energy capacity, Maharashtra has adopted a comprehensive seven-pronged strategy. This approach includes expanding renewable energy sources, promoting agricultural solarisation, enhancing distribution infrastructure, implementing smart metering and digital systems, initiating policy reforms, encouraging investment, and improving energy storage solutions. These measures are designed to ensure a reliable and affordable electricity supply for all residents.

A key factor contributing to Maharashtra's success in the renewable energy sector is the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0. This initiative focuses on promoting decentralized solar power generation specifically for agricultural feeders. The scheme has set an ambitious target of 16,000 MW, with the entire capacity already awarded and approximately 7,000 MW currently commissioned. The solarisation efforts have transformed over 4,500 agricultural feeders and 1,200 substations, significantly benefiting more than 18 lakh farmers across the state.

Looking ahead, Maharashtra's commitment to renewable energy is expected to continue driving growth in the sector. The state aims to further enhance its renewable energy generation capabilities and expand its initiatives to support farmers and the agricultural sector. As the demand for clean energy rises, Maharashtra's proactive approach positions it as a leader in the renewable energy landscape in India.
