In a landmark development for public transportation in Maharashtra, Volvo Buses India has secured a substantial order from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for 200 Volvo 9600 coaches. This order marks the largest single purchase of Volvo buses in India, highlighting a significant commitment to enhancing premium intercity travel across the state.
The order consists of 170 seater buses and 30 sleeper buses, which are expected to significantly improve the travel experience for passengers. With these new additions, MSRTC aims to elevate the standards of intercity travel, ensuring that passengers benefit from Volvo's renowned safety, comfort, and reliability on both intercity and interstate routes.
Mr. Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President of the Bus Division at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., expressed gratitude towards Maharashtra's Transport Minister, Shri Pratap Sarnaik, and MSRTC's Managing Director, Dr. Madhav Kusekar, for their trust in Volvo buses. He emphasized that this order represents a shared commitment to enhancing travel experiences and making premium services more accessible to the citizens of Maharashtra.
This initiative aligns with the Maharashtra government's focus on improving passenger comfort and safety while modernizing state-run transport services. The Volvo 9600 is designed to offer high reliability and consistent performance, which supports MSRTC's goal of setting new benchmarks for passenger-centric travel in the region.
Looking ahead, the induction of these buses is expected to begin soon, with MSRTC planning to integrate them into its existing fleet to enhance its public transportation network. This development not only signifies a step forward for intercity travel in Maharashtra but also reflects a broader trend towards modernization and improved service quality in public transportation across India.
