In the wake of the publication of draft electoral rolls on August 31, 2026, Maharashtra has recorded more than 6 lakh applications for new voter registrations, corrections, and objections across its 36 districts. Pune has emerged as the district with the highest number of applications, totaling 56,605, according to data from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The draft electoral rolls revealed that out of a total of 9,78,54,049 voters, 7,71,65,562 were included, while 2,06,88,487 voters, accounting for 21.14%, were categorized as absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, or other (ASDDO). This significant number of applications reflects the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process aimed at ensuring accurate voter representation.

Between August 31 and October 4, 2026, the state election authority received a total of 6,24,054 forms. This includes 6,05,097 applications for new voters (Form 6), 11,251 objections to existing entries (Form 7), and 7,706 requests for corrections (Form 8). The data indicates a proactive approach by citizens to ensure their participation in the electoral process.

In terms of regional distribution, Thane followed Pune with 46,373 applications, while Mumbai Suburban recorded 38,094. Other notable districts include Nashik with 32,691 and Jalgaon with 28,397 applications. Conversely, Sindhudurg reported the lowest number of applications at just 2,394. This disparity highlights varying levels of engagement across different regions of the state.

The state election body has extended the claims and objections period until October 12, 2026, allowing more time for voters to address any discrepancies. Notices related to these claims will be processed until November 12, 2026, with the final electoral roll set to be published on November 16, 2026. Booth Level Officers have also been instructed to facilitate document submissions via WhatsApp and conduct home visits as necessary to aid the registration process.
