Students in Maharashtra will enjoy a 13-day Diwali break in 2026, with schools closing from November 2 until November 14. This schedule was confirmed by the Education Department's academic calendar for the 2026-27 academic year. Classes are set to resume on November 16, coinciding with the beginning of the second semester.
The holiday period applies to all recognized primary, secondary, and higher secondary institutions across Maharashtra. The announcement was disseminated via a circular from the Secondary Education Department, providing ample notice for families and schools to prepare for the holiday season.
The Diwali vacation encompasses significant festive days, including Dhanteras on November 6, Diwali Padwa on November 10, and Bhaubij on November 11. This advance notice allows parents to organize travel plans and family gatherings, while also enabling schools to effectively manage their academic schedules.
The holiday calendar outlines important dates, starting with the first semester on June 15, 2026, and concluding on October 31, 2026. Following the Diwali break, the second semester will run until May 1, 2027, with summer vacation scheduled from May 3 to June 14, 2027. The next academic year is anticipated to commence after this summer break.
Parents are encouraged to stay informed through official communications from their children’s schools, particularly regarding any additional instructions or changes. The circular also emphasizes that schools must adhere to the prescribed holiday regulations, which stipulate a maximum of 76 holiday days and a minimum of 230 working days in the academic year. Any alterations to the holiday schedule require prior approval from educational authorities, ensuring that families can plan accordingly without confusion.
