Election Commission Adjusts SIR Deadlines in Six Regions
The Election Commission has revised the Special Intensive Revision timelines for electoral rolls in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, Nagaland, and Delhi.
Revised deadlines for claims and objections extended in six regions.
Final publication dates for electoral rolls pushed to late November and December.
The changes come after requests from chief electoral officers.
On October 30, 2026, the Election Commission of India announced an extension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) timelines for electoral rolls across Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, Nagaland, and the Union Territory of Delhi. This decision follows requests from the chief electoral officers of these regions, aimed at ensuring a more comprehensive electoral process.
The adjustments to the electoral roll revision schedule include significant changes in deadlines for filing claims and objections. In Maharashtra, for instance, the deadline has been moved from October 26 to November 13. Additionally, the notice phase and the disposal of claims will now continue until November 25, with the final electoral roll set to be published on November 30. The draft electoral roll was initially released on August 31, with earlier disposals scheduled for November 10.
In Delhi, the timeline for filing claims and objections has also been extended, now allowing submissions until November 25 instead of the previous October 30 deadline. The disposal of these claims has been postponed from November 30 to December 15, with the final electoral roll publication scheduled for December 22. The Election Commission has made these adjustments to facilitate a smoother electoral process in the capital.
The revised schedule also affects Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Nagaland, with the notice and resolution periods closing on November 20, November 20, and November 25, respectively. Telangana's deadline for claims and objections is now set for November 26. All four states are expected to publish their final electoral rolls on November 30, aligning with the revised timelines.
Originally announced on May 14, the SIR Phase 3 encompasses 16 states and three Union Territories, reflecting the Election Commission's commitment to maintaining an updated and accurate electoral roll. The frequent adjustments to the SIR schedule underscore the challenges faced in the electoral process and the importance of accommodating requests from local electoral authorities.
