In a significant move to bolster agri-tourism in the state, the Maharashtra Tourism Department has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Agri Tourism Development Company Pvt. Ltd. This partnership, spearheaded by agri-tourism expert Pandurang Taware, aims to enhance training and capacity building across various sectors of agri-tourism in Maharashtra.
The MoU outlines plans to establish the Baramati Agri & Rural Tourism Training Center in Palshiwadi, Baramati, as a state-level facility dedicated to advancing hospitality skills, digital marketing, and sustainable tourism practices. This center will serve as a hub for training, research, and knowledge exchange, catering to farmers, rural youth, women, and other stakeholders in the tourism sector.
The training program will be structured to include 30% classroom instruction, 40% practical training, 20% field visits, and 10% business planning. The initiative is designed to help farmers diversify their income through tourism while creating job opportunities in rural areas. Vikas Pansare, Director of the Directorate of Tourism, emphasized the potential of agri-tourism to drive economic growth by linking agricultural practices with local culture and tourism.
This initiative is expected to have a profound impact on the rural economy of Maharashtra, as it aims to develop skilled personnel and promote entrepreneurship among women and youth. Additionally, the program will enhance service standards at agri-tourism centers and encourage the adoption of digital platforms for better market access.
Looking ahead, the partnership will focus on various aspects, including the development of agri-tourism products, digital transformation, and sustainable tourism practices. The overarching goal is to integrate agri-tourism as a complementary activity to traditional farming, thereby enabling rural communities to actively participate in Maharashtra's growing tourism economy.
