The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of 11 food establishments, including two Domino's Pizza outlets, following a statewide inspection that revealed significant hygiene violations. This action was part of a broader initiative to ensure compliance with food safety standards across the state.
Inspections conducted on October 21 and 22 uncovered alarming conditions at various eateries, including unsanitary kitchens, rusted utensils, and improper food storage practices. The FDA reported that nearly 38 tonnes of food stock, valued at ₹54.66 lakh, was seized during these inspections. The violations included mixing returned bread with fresh stock and maintaining incomplete temperature records, raising serious health concerns.
Among the establishments affected in Mumbai are S K Bakery, Nekzad Restaurant, and several others, alongside the two Domino's outlets located in Bhandup West and Beed. In total, nine licenses were suspended in Mumbai, while two were revoked in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division. The FDA's actions were taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, emphasizing the need for stringent adherence to hygiene practices.
The largest seizure occurred in the Konkan division, where officials confiscated over 33,000 kg of rajma and pulses from RDC Agro Ventures Pvt Ltd in Navi Mumbai, suspected of being substandard and improperly labeled. Additionally, in the Nashik division, various food items, including refined soybean oil and ghee, were seized due to quality concerns.
The FDA's enforcement drive aims to enhance food safety compliance across Maharashtra and protect public health. The agency plans to continue monitoring food establishments rigorously to prevent similar violations in the future, ensuring that consumers receive safe and hygienic food products.
