The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 17 states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, and parts of southern India. In Delhi, thunderstorms are expected to bring winds of up to 50 kmph, while southern regions may see gusts reaching 60 kmph. The IMD's forecast indicates that these weather conditions will be influenced by a western disturbance over northern Pakistan and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjacent areas.
In West Bengal, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall during the initial days of the Durga Puja festival, particularly in Kolkata and southern Bengal, from October 15 to 17. Rain is also expected on Saptami and Ashtami, October 18 and 19, respectively, while the weather is predicted to clear during the festival's concluding days, Navami and Dashami, on October 20 and 21.
The IMD has also warned of heatwave conditions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Maharashtra's coastal Konkan belt, effective until October 12. Isolated areas in south Konkan may experience extreme heat, with temperatures expected to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, potentially reaching between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius in some interior regions by October 10.
In Jharkhand, the southwest monsoon is anticipated to withdraw within the next four days, following a recorded rainfall deficit of 2%. The monsoon has already receded from several northwestern districts, including Garhwa and Ranchi. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh may see scattered showers over the weekend, although no heavy rainfall is expected.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts continued rainfall and thunderstorms across various regions in India, with gusty winds likely in northern, central, and southern states. As the southwest monsoon withdraws from Jharkhand, the weather is expected to stabilize, with a gradual normalization of conditions anticipated by early next week.
