BJP and Shiv Sena Engage in Poster Warfare Following MLC Poll Setback
Tensions escalate between BJP and Shiv Sena as a poster war erupts amid fallout from disappointing MLC election results.
BJP and Shiv Sena relations have soured, leading to a public poster battle.
The recent MLC elections resulted in poor outcomes for the BJP, intensifying disputes.
Shiv Sena's leadership change demand has further strained the alliance.
Tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena have reached a boiling point, culminating in a public poster war. This conflict arises in the wake of disappointing results in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections, where the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured only two out of five seats, while the opposition coalition won three. The deteriorating relationship between these two political allies is raising concerns about the stability of their alliance.
The backdrop of this escalating tension includes allegations made by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, who released an audio clip claiming a Rs 500 crore pay-off involving Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his son, Shrikant Shinde. These accusations have added fuel to the fire, prompting Shinde to urge his party members to maintain restraint and avoid public confrontations with the BJP, despite the growing animosity.
The BJP's recent losses in key constituencies, particularly in Pune and Nagpur, have intensified the blame game between the two parties. BJP leaders have accused Shiv Sena of failing to provide adequate support during the elections, while Shiv Sena has criticized the BJP's treatment of its allies. The poster war has taken a more personal turn, with Shiv Sena leader Ravindra Dhangekar mocking BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban through an AI-generated image, while Ban retaliated with a graphic depicting Dhangekar as a chameleon.
The ongoing conflict highlights a significant trust deficit between the BJP and Shiv Sena, which have historically shared power both in Maharashtra and at the national level. As both parties grapple with internal pressures and external criticisms, the potential for further escalation looms, raising questions about the future of their coalition.
In an attempt to mitigate the situation, Eknath Shinde has called on his party leaders to refrain from making critical remarks about the BJP, seeking to restore some semblance of unity within the alliance. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether this public feud can be resolved or if it will lead to a deeper rift within the Mahayuti alliance.
