Utex New Energy, part of the Pagariya Group, has officially signed an agreement to set up a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assembly plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with a planned capacity of 20 GWh. The announcement was made by Devesh Sharma, the former CEO of Inox Solar, who is now associated with Utex New Energy. The project will also involve ENcore Systems as the technology partner, ensuring advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The initiative will unfold in two distinct phases, beginning with an initial phase that targets a 5.5 GWh output. The facility is designed to scale up to the full 20 GWh capacity within the next one to two years. It will feature a fully automated production line utilizing KUKA robots from Germany, capable of handling battery cells with a capacity of up to 628 Ah. Comprehensive quality control measures will be implemented throughout the production process, ensuring high standards from material inspection to final product testing.

The agreement was signed by key figures from the Pagariya Group, including Chairman Umesh Pagariya and Directors Raj and Neel Pagariya, alongside Rashmi Pathak from Utex and Nikhil Arora from ENcore Systems. This collaboration aims to enhance BESS manufacturing capabilities in India, focusing on converting manufacturing potential into actual production output.

As India seeks to bolster its battery storage capabilities, this investment is timely, coinciding with a growing demand for energy storage solutions. Local production is expected to play a crucial role in supporting renewable energy initiatives and strengthening supply chains across the country. The establishment of this facility is anticipated to significantly contribute to the domestic manufacturing landscape.

In the broader context of solar and BESS manufacturing in Maharashtra, Galaxy Solar Energy Pvt. Ltd. has also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government to invest ₹10,080 crore in an integrated solar and BESS manufacturing facility in the Nagpur district. This reflects a growing trend of substantial investments in energy storage and renewable energy sectors in the region.
