In a tragic incident on Godhani Road, a 31-year-old woman named Ashwini Phalke was killed by a gravel-laden truck on Tuesday, just over a month after a similar accident claimed the life of a BTech student. The accident occurred while Ashwini was riding a scooter with her six-year-old son, Advik, who she managed to push to safety moments before the collision. The accident has sparked significant outrage among local residents, leading to a blockade of the road for over four hours.

The sequence of events leading to the accident remains unclear, with conflicting accounts regarding how the truck collided with the scooter. Preliminary reports indicate that the truck, which was transporting gravel, rammed into the two-wheeler, causing Ashwini and Advik to be thrown off. While her husband, Pankaj, who was driving the scooter, fell away from the truck, Ashwini was tragically caught under the vehicle's heavy tires, resulting in her immediate death.

The driver of the truck, identified as Sheikh Jameel, 45, was apprehended by the Mankapur police after they reviewed CCTV footage from the area. Jameel was reportedly en route to a construction site when the incident occurred. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are seeking additional footage to clarify the events.

The incident has led to a significant public outcry, with hundreds of residents gathering at the scene to express their anger and demand accountability from local authorities. Vinita Sahu, the Additional Commissioner of Police, was dispatched to the location to manage the situation, alongside senior officials from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation and other civic agencies.

This accident marks the second fatal incident on Godhani Road within a month, following the death of Muskan Khiyaldasani, a BTech student, on September 30. In light of these tragedies, residents are calling for immediate action to improve road safety measures. Sahu announced that the police would collaborate with civic agencies to address issues such as road encroachments, footpath clearance, and improved street lighting to prevent further accidents.
