Nagpur Government Railway Police have initiated an investigation.
In a disturbing incident aboard the AP Express, a 51-year-old passenger was drugged and robbed of ₹5.32 lakh while traveling from Nagpur to Gwalior. The victim, identified as Pappu Jagram Rathore from Morena, Madhya Pradesh, was targeted by a co-traveler who allegedly spiked his food, rendering him unconscious.
The incident occurred when Rathore was approached by a 65-year-old man who claimed to be heading to Jhansi. After engaging in conversation, the elderly passenger offered Rathore snacks, including namkeen, an apple, and a laddoo. Shortly after consuming the food, Rathore lost consciousness, providing the suspect with the opportunity to steal his belongings.
Upon regaining consciousness, Rathore discovered that ₹5 lakh from his bag, an additional ₹17,000 from his pocket, and his mobile phone were missing. He promptly reported the theft to the police in Gwalior, who then transferred the case to the Nagpur Government Railway Police (GRP) due to the origin of the journey.
The GRP has since registered a case against an unidentified suspect and is actively investigating the matter. This incident underscores the ongoing issue of passenger safety on trains, particularly concerning the tactics employed by criminals to exploit unsuspecting travelers.
Authorities are urging passengers to remain vigilant and cautious when accepting food or drinks from strangers while traveling. The GRP is committed to enhancing security measures on trains to prevent such incidents in the future.
