In a significant development for landholders in the Nagpur and Amravati divisions, the Maharashtra Government has announced a one-year extension of the Special Abhay Scheme. This extension, now valid until July 31, 2027, was confirmed by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule following directives from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The decision aims to assist thousands of leaseholders who previously could not benefit from the scheme for various reasons.

The Special Abhay Scheme allows residential Nazul lands, which have been allotted through auction or other means, to be converted into freehold status by paying a nominal premium of 2% of the market value as per the Annual Statement of Rates. This provision is particularly beneficial for leaseholders looking to secure ownership of their properties.

Additionally, the scheme offers a concession on outstanding lease rents, charging a reduced rate of 0.02% during the extension period. However, leaseholders must settle any arrears by the new deadline of July 31, 2027, or face a penal interest rate of 10% per annum on unpaid amounts thereafter. This measure is designed to encourage compliance and timely payments among landholders.

The extension of the scheme is expected to positively impact thousands of residents across 11 districts, including Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and others within the Nagpur and Amravati divisions. Local public representatives had previously raised concerns about the need for this extension, prompting the government to take action.

Looking ahead, the revised Special Abhay Scheme will remain in effect until its expiration on July 31, 2027. After this date, the existing revenue rules will resume, making it crucial for eligible landholders to take advantage of the current provisions before they lapse.
