In a significant announcement, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed on Sunday that Nagpur is set to receive a massive investment of Rs1 lakh crore aimed at enhancing the city's infrastructure and economic landscape. Speaking at the Viksit Vidarbha Summit, Gadkari highlighted that several projects have already been approved, with some finalized just a day prior to his address.

Gadkari emphasized Nagpur's potential as India's logistics capital, stating that comprehensive planning and design work have been completed for the upcoming projects. Among the key initiatives is the redevelopment of Kachipura in Ramdaspeth, which is expected to involve an investment of Rs50,000 crore. Additionally, the Cotton Market and Santra Market are slated for redevelopment, further modernizing the city's commercial spaces.

The minister detailed various infrastructural improvements, including the transformation of the road from Mayo Hospital in Itwari to Shaheed Chowk into a four-lane thoroughfare, which will feature two new markets. He also announced the construction of a major textile market at Empress Mill, where work has progressed to two floors. An agro convention center is planned on Amravati Road, supported by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to bolster agricultural trade and events.

Gadkari pointed out the innovative approach Nagpur is taking towards waste management, with the city being the first in India to produce compressed biogas from segregated municipal waste, utilizing technology from the Netherlands. This facility currently generates 16 tonnes of biogas daily. Furthermore, he mentioned that the Central Jail will be relocated outside the city, and a large private bus port is under construction in Ajni.

Looking ahead, Gadkari stated that Mother Dairy's new Rs1,000 crore plant in Butibori is set to open within two months, aiming to produce ice cream, paneer, and cheese while sourcing 50 lakh litres of milk daily. He also addressed the potential for Vidarbha's shrimp to enter international markets, emphasizing the need for an international cargo hub to facilitate exports. Lastly, Gadkari defended the use of E20 petrol, countering misinformation and highlighting its successful adoption by millions of vehicles since 2022.
