Negligence Leads to Death of 17-Year-Old Student in Amravati

In a tragic incident in Amravati, a case has been registered against a hostel warden and three cooks after the death of a 17-year-old student, Rajesh Bethekar, allegedly due to food poisoning. The complaint was filed by Rajesh's father on August 29, following the student's death on August 16, after he exhibited severe symptoms after consuming breakfast at the hostel.
Rajesh, a Class 11 student at a government-aided school in the Navsari area, consumed chapatis, brinjal curry, rice, and peas dal on the morning of August 14. The following day, he, along with several other students, began experiencing distressing symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Despite the worsening condition of the students, it is alleged that the warden did not provide timely medical assistance.
After Rajesh's brother arrived at the school on August 16, he found Rajesh in poor health. The warden reportedly suggested that the family take Rajesh home for three days, which they did. Unfortunately, Rajesh's condition worsened during the journey, and he passed away before reaching a health center. His last rites were conducted on August 17.
Following the initial complaint, police registered a case of accidental death. However, on September 12, the body was exhumed for an autopsy, which is still pending results. Police Inspector Pradeepkumar Patil has directed further investigation into the matter, leading to the filing of charges against the warden and cooks for negligence.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and health protocols in school hostels, prompting calls for stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. The community is awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death and further legal actions against those responsible.
