Nagpur's ZTCC Records 18th Organ Donation of 2026
A brain-dead homemaker's organs have been donated to save three lives, marking a significant milestone for Nagpur's organ donation efforts.
Manisha Sagar Badge, 41, declared brain-stem dead after a road accident.
Her organs were donated to three recipients, including two kidneys and a liver.
ZTCC has now facilitated a total of 203 organ donations since 2013.
In a poignant act of generosity, the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) in Nagpur facilitated its 18th deceased organ donation of the year on Wednesday. This donation marks a significant milestone, bringing the total number of deceased organ donations to 203 since the center's inception in 2013. The donor, Manisha Sagar Badge, a 41-year-old homemaker from Jalgaon, was declared brain-stem dead after suffering severe injuries from a road accident in Amravati on October 17.
Following her accident, Badge was treated for ten days in a private hospital in Amravati, but her condition worsened, leading to the declaration of brain-stem death by the Brain Stem Death Committee. Her family, guided by medical professionals including Dr. Hitesh Gulhane and coordinator Santosh Wamankar, made the compassionate decision to donate her organs. Her husband, Sagar Badge, and father, Vyankat Khobragade, consented to the donation, which included her heart, lungs, liver, both kidneys, and corneas.
The donated organs were allocated to various recipients: one kidney was given to a 62-year-old man at the same hospital in Amravati, while the second kidney was sent to a 54-year-old man at AVBRH in Wardha. Additionally, the liver was allocated to a 66-year-old man at a private hospital in Nagpur. Unfortunately, no suitable recipients were found for the heart and lungs. To ensure the timely and safe transport of the organs, green corridors were established, facilitating quick transit from the hospital to the outskirts of Amravati.
This act of organ donation not only highlights the importance of such initiatives but also underscores the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. ZTCC expressed its gratitude to the traffic police in Amravati and Nagpur for their crucial role in ensuring the swift transportation of the donated organs, which is vital in saving lives.
Manisha Sagar Badge is survived by her husband and two children, a son named Ahant, aged 12, and a daughter named Avira, aged 8. Her family's decision to donate her organs serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of organ donation and the potential to save lives in the face of tragedy.
