The Rani Laxmibai Durga Utsav Mandal in Nagpur has announced an 11-day Navratri festival set to run from October 11 to 21. This year’s celebration promises a rich blend of music, theatre, dance, and traditional rituals, showcasing the cultural heritage of Maharashtra and beyond. Each evening will feature a unique program designed to engage and entertain visitors, making it a significant event in the region's cultural calendar.
Founded in 2006, the Mandal has evolved from a local initiative to a major celebration of Navratri, attracting over 50,000 visitors daily. The festival will include performances from notable artists such as Maithili Thakur, Humsufi Band, and The Bansuriwala Collective. Additionally, theatrical productions and poetry sessions will highlight various cultural themes, including historical narratives and social issues.
Among the festival's highlights is the theatrical presentation titled 'Panhala Gad to Pawankhind', which commemorates the bravery of Baji Prabhu Deshpande, a key figure in Maratha history. This performance aims to educate attendees about the Maratha struggle for independence while celebrating their rich heritage. Other notable events include 'Khaau Gappa Aani Kavita' featuring Vishnu Manohar, and a dance performance 'Uttara' by Soniya Parchure and her Mumbai team.
The Mandal not only focuses on the festival but also actively participates in community service. Volunteers assist local orphanages and elderly homes, and they promote environmentally friendly practices during the festival, such as providing artificial immersion tanks to reduce pollution. Prasanna Mohile, the Mandal president, emphasized the importance of blending culture, tradition, and community involvement through these celebrations.
As the festival approaches, the Mandal plans to hold a media briefing to discuss this year's theme and initiatives. The detailed schedule of events includes daily performances and rituals, culminating in the Visarjan ceremony on October 21. This year’s Navratri festival aims to foster a sense of community, devotion, and cultural appreciation in Nagpur.
