In a significant move to bolster law enforcement, Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil unveiled a new security roadmap during a press conference at the Press Club on Thursday. The plan aims to address pressing issues such as serious crimes, drug trafficking, women's safety, and traffic management, reflecting a comprehensive approach to enhancing public safety in the city.
With nearly 30 years of experience in policing, Nangre Patil emphasized the importance of a coordinated strategy to improve law and order. He highlighted the alarming rise in drug use among the youth, advocating for stringent measures against drug traffickers and peddlers. The Commissioner pointed out that effective crime control requires not only arrests but also community engagement through awareness campaigns and counseling for offenders.
A major component of the new strategy is the establishment of 12 Nirbhaya teams dedicated to women's safety. These teams will work to raise awareness about personal safety and ensure a swift police response to complaints. Additionally, beat marshals will be deployed throughout the city to enhance police visibility and responsiveness, reinforcing the commitment to protect women in Nagpur.
Nangre Patil also discussed the management of police personnel, noting that the city currently has around 9,500 officers. He stressed the need for a balanced approach to manpower distribution across police stations, infrastructure needs, and recruitment efforts. The Commissioner acknowledged the ongoing concerns regarding serious crimes, including murder, and emphasized the necessity for focused attention on these issues.
Traffic management is another critical area of focus in the new roadmap. The police plan to implement measures to improve traffic flow and address parking challenges in Nagpur. Furthermore, the effective enforcement of the hawker policy will be vital to ensure smoother movement for vehicles and pedestrians in busy areas. As major festivals like Dussehra and Navratri approach, the police are ramping up security preparations to maintain public safety and order during these events, ensuring that Nagpur remains a secure environment for its citizens.
