Nagpur Municipal Corporation Targets 3,000 Buildings Lacking Occupancy Certificates
The NMC has concluded its notice campaign aimed at buildings without occupancy certificates, issuing directives to approximately 3,000 property owners.
NMC issued notices to around 3,000 builders and homeowners.
The notice campaign ran from September 17 to October 26.
Further actions will be based on document submissions and compliance checks.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has finalized its campaign addressing buildings in the city that lack Occupancy Certificates (OC). Notices were dispatched to nearly 3,000 builders, housing societies, and individual homeowners, instructing them to present approved building plans and necessary documentation.
This initiative commenced on September 17, with an initial deadline of October 2 for issuing notices. However, due to increased workloads and staff being assigned to other governmental duties, the campaign extended until October 26. The NMC's Town Planning Department has been actively involved in this effort to ensure compliance with building regulations.
Despite the issuance of notices, the response from builders and homeowners regarding document submissions has been slower than anticipated. Reports indicate that some individuals are opting to approach elected representatives for assistance rather than directly submitting the required documents to the NMC. This has raised concerns about potential pressure being applied on the department in these instances.
With the notice campaign concluded, the Town Planning Department is now tasked with reviewing the submitted documents to ensure adherence to regulations. The NMC Commissioner, Dr. Vipin, has instructed that cases involving buildings without OCs will be examined, and a strategy for subsequent actions against non-compliant builders and homeowners will be developed.
The department is currently focused on collecting responses to the notices and verifying compliance. The effectiveness of the NMC's enforcement actions will depend on how many property owners comply with the documentation requirements and the subsequent measures taken against those who do not.
