In a troubling incident in Nagpur, a 30-year-old man reportedly bit a policeman after being stopped from filming officers at a local police post. The altercation occurred on the evening of September 9, 2022, at the Makardhokda police post located in Umred tehsil.
The accused, identified as Rakesh Purushottam Gajbhiye, approached the police regarding a dispute with another individual. Frustrated by the police's refusal to register a complaint against the other party involved, Gajbhiye's dissatisfaction led to a heated argument with the officers present at the post.
During the confrontation, Gajbhiye attempted to record video footage of the on-duty policemen. When a policeman intervened and requested him to stop filming and hand over the video, the situation escalated. Reports indicate that Gajbhiye reacted violently, allegedly biting the officer who confronted him.
Following the incident, Gajbhiye fled the scene on his two-wheeler before law enforcement could detain him. The police have since filed charges against him under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to assaulting a public servant to prevent them from performing their duties. Additional IPC provisions were also cited in the case.
This incident underscores the tensions that can arise between citizens and law enforcement, particularly when individuals feel their grievances are not being adequately addressed. As the investigation continues, further updates on Gajbhiye's whereabouts and the police's response to the incident are anticipated.
