A private hospital in south Nagpur is facing serious allegations of medical negligence after a couple delivered a stillborn baby on Sunday morning. The incident has raised alarms when the family observed what appeared to be injury marks on the infant's body, prompting them to file a complaint with the police, who have since registered a case of accidental death and ordered a postmortem examination.
The mother, who was expecting her first child, was admitted to the hospital late Saturday night due to discomfort. A Caesarean section was performed around 11 am on Sunday, resulting in the delivery of a stillborn boy. The family expressed their concerns over the condition of the baby, which led to a gathering of relatives and friends at the hospital demanding answers from the management.
In response to the situation, hospital officials contacted the police, leading to an investigation by the Sakkardara police station. Senior Inspector Manoj Pawar stated that they recorded statements from both the grieving family and hospital staff. While the family pointed out the injury marks, doctors claimed these were pre-birth blisters and skin conditions, which they insisted were not injuries. The police emphasized the importance of the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death and the nature of the marks observed on the baby.
The family has raised concerns about the quality of medical care provided during the mother's admission, noting that she had been under treatment at the same facility since the early stages of her pregnancy. One relative criticized the absence of the attending doctor during the night of admission, stating that timely diagnosis could have potentially changed the outcome.
