No injuries reported, but the incident highlights fire safety concerns in crowded neighborhoods.
A large fire broke out early Sunday morning at Al Kausar Refrigeration, a shop located in the Lodhipura area of Nagpur, near Gitanjali Square. The blaze quickly spread to two adjacent houses, leading to significant panic among local residents as explosions from bursting compressors echoed through the neighborhood. Fire officials reported that the incident began around 8:47 AM, with flames engulfing the shop and threatening nearby structures.
The fire was fueled by the shop's old construction materials, including tin sheets and wooden components, which facilitated the rapid spread of the flames. Firefighters from the Ganeshpeth Fire Station arrived within four minutes and initiated firefighting efforts. Additional resources were deployed, including four fire tenders and water bowsers, to combat the blaze effectively. The coordinated response involved personnel from multiple fire stations, and the situation was brought under control after several hours of intense effort.
The damage assessment revealed that the fire caused losses estimated at Rs 35 lakh to the refrigeration shop alone, with the total damage, including the two houses, amounting to Rs 35.7 lakh. Fortunately, firefighters managed to salvage goods worth approximately Rs 5 lakh during their operation. The two neighboring houses, owned by Ramesh Bhawla and Manoj Shrivas, suffered damages of Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.
Senior fire officials, including Chief Fire Officer Tushar Barahate, visited the scene to oversee the firefighting operations and assess the situation. The Ganeshpeth Police have registered the incident, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and whether any safety violations contributed to the extent of the damage. This incident has raised concerns about fire safety in densely populated areas, where the close proximity of commercial and residential buildings can exacerbate fire risks.
As the investigation continues, local authorities are expected to review fire safety regulations in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any fire hazards to ensure community safety.
