Mahindra & Mahindra has officially taken possession of 800 acres in the Butibori industrial area of Nagpur as part of its ambitious plan to establish a manufacturing facility. This project, which involves an investment exceeding Rs 15,000 crore, is expected to create more than 20,000 direct jobs by the time production begins in 2028.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's handover of land marks a significant milestone for Mahindra, which aims to develop its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in the region. The company has been allocated a total of 1,500 acres for this project, with plans to acquire an additional 700 acres in the future. Initial payments for the first parcel have reportedly exceeded Rs 706 crore.
Once operational, the facility is projected to manufacture over 500,000 vehicles and 100,000 tractors each year. It will accommodate various powertrains, including traditional internal combustion engines and electric vehicles, as well as next-generation vehicle platforms. Additionally, a dedicated 150-acre supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will facilitate component supply for the new plant and support Mahindra's existing operations in Chakan and Nashik.
This investment is poised to significantly impact industrial development in the Vidarbha region, potentially benefiting local suppliers and businesses. The creation of a skilling center in Nagpur is also part of Mahindra's strategy to enhance local manufacturing capabilities in areas such as mechanical operations, welding, and painting. The company plans to leverage its experienced workforce from existing operations, with hiring based on technical skills and collaborative abilities.
Announced in February 2026, this project is part of Mahindra's broader initiative to invest Rs 15,000 crore over the next decade across Maharashtra. The company is also expanding its product and engine capacity in the Igatpuri-Nashik area to strengthen its manufacturing presence and meet growing demand in the automotive and farm equipment sectors. As construction progresses, more details regarding the scale of hiring and the variety of roles available are expected to emerge.
