The Futala Musical Fountain in Nagpur, which has been closed for almost two years, is on track to achieve technical readiness by the first week of December. On Sunday evening, the fountain briefly came to life, with water jets shooting up and orange lights illuminating the surrounding lake, marking a significant step in its restoration process.

Officials involved in the project clarified that the recent display was not a public trial but rather a technical exercise to assess the water and lighting effects. As the restoration progresses, these intermittent checks will become more frequent, allowing engineers to identify any issues and fine-tune the equipment. Senior officials from MahaMetro emphasized the importance of these checks in integrating the various systems needed for the fountain's operation.

While the fountain is nearing technical readiness, it will not open to the public immediately. The timeline for public shows will rely on necessary administrative approvals, which may take additional time. An international team, including Belgian expert Basile de Schrynmakers and Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Alphonse Roy, is currently in Nagpur to oversee the final stages of preparation.

The immediate focus is on synchronizing the fountain's mechanical, electrical, and digital control systems, with this process scheduled to commence in early November. Unlike traditional fountains, the Futala installation features a multimedia experience that combines choreographed water jets, lighting, sound, and visual projections, all of which must operate in harmony.

Additionally, the installation of the white tensile fabric over the fountain's artificial banyan tree has been completed. This structure will serve as a projection surface for animated visuals during the multimedia shows. The next phase involves conducting a detailed 3D LiDAR scan of the tree to create a precise digital model, which will assist the animation team in mapping visuals onto the tree's contours. The restoration has included extensive replacements of specialized electrical components and machinery, and with the international team on site, efforts are now concentrated on completing the restoration and preparing for integrated testing.
