In a tragic incident on Friday, two workers lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries when a tower crane collapsed at an MHADA construction site in the Ganeshpeth area of Nagpur. The accident occurred during ongoing construction activities, leading to a chaotic scene as emergency services rushed to the site.
Preliminary reports from the Ganeshpeth police indicate that the crane operator was attempting to elevate the nearly 100-foot crane when its upper section collided with another crane present at the site. This collision triggered the crane's collapse, resulting in workers being thrown from a significant height, leading to the fatalities and injuries.
The deceased included the crane operator and a laborer who was working atop the crane. The three injured workers were promptly transported to a private hospital for medical attention. Authorities reported that their conditions were stable, although further details regarding the extent of their injuries were still pending.
Emergency responders, including the fire department, were engaged in rescue operations at the construction site, where one worker was trapped in the upper section of the crane. Fire personnel successfully reached the trapped individual and facilitated their rescue. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crane's collapse are ongoing, with police and fire officials assessing the site for further insights.
As the investigation unfolds, the Ganeshpeth police are conducting a panchnama to document the scene. At this time, no formal charges have been filed, and further actions will be determined following the initial inquiry into the incident.
