In a significant operation on Tuesday, the Crime Branch's Anti-Narcotics Squad detained two men in Nagpur, seizing 52.7 grams of mephedrone (MD) powder worth ₹2.68 lakh. The arrests took place at Bhandeplot Chowk during a routine patrol within the Sakkardara police station jurisdiction.
The suspects, identified as Suraj Kathane, 30, and Harshal Abgad, 25, both residents of the Nandanvan slum, were apprehended after police received a tip-off regarding their suspicious behavior near a moped outside Vishal Megamart. The operation unfolded between 4:10 AM and 6:20 AM, leading to their detention.
Upon conducting a search in the presence of independent witnesses, authorities discovered the MD powder concealed in a ziplock bag, along with three mobile phones and the moped. The total estimated value of the seized items, including the drugs, reached ₹2.68 lakh, highlighting the scale of the operation.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals reportedly disclosed that they had obtained the drugs for distribution with the help of three accomplices: Hashim Sheikh, 25, Ishant alias Goldie Nicholse, 35, both from Bagadganj, and Pravin Tempe, 32, from Pachpaoli. This revelation has prompted the Anti-Narcotics Squad to intensify their search for these associates and to investigate the drug's source and intended distribution channels.
A case has been filed at Sakkardara police station under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation continues as authorities aim to dismantle the broader network involved in this drug operation.
