Chandrapur RTO Earns ₹2.2 Crore from Fancy Number Plates in 2025-26

In the fiscal year 2025-26, the Chandrapur Regional Transport Office (RTO) reported a remarkable revenue of ₹2.2 crore from the sale of fancy vehicle registration numbers. This figure marks a substantial increase of ₹66.21 lakh, or 42.87%, compared to the previous year. The surge in revenue was driven by a notable rise in applications, with 1,816 requests for choice numbers submitted, up from 1,520 in 2024-25.

The RTO's data indicates that numbers perceived as prestigious or auspicious garnered the highest demand among motorists. Notably, registration numbers such as 0007 and 5555 commanded premium prices, with applicants willing to pay a minimum of ₹2.10 lakh for each. Other popular choices included numbers like 0009, 0111, 0011, 0005, and 7777, reflecting a trend towards unique and meaningful identifiers for vehicles.

The government has established a framework allowing applicants to secure their preferred registration numbers by paying specific fees associated with different categories. The entire application and allotment process is conducted online, adhering to the relevant regulations, which has streamlined access for prospective buyers.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Raosaheb Ragde highlighted that the increasing interest in these choice numbers signifies a growing public confidence in the system. He noted, "The online process has made the facility more accessible," emphasizing the positive impact of digitalization on public services.

Looking ahead, the RTO anticipates continued interest in fancy registration numbers, suggesting that the trend may persist in the upcoming fiscal years. As more motorists seek unique identifiers for their vehicles, the RTO is likely to see further increases in both applications and revenue, reinforcing the popularity of this service in Chandrapur.
