Air Ambulance Service Set for Nagpur–Mumbai Highway by 2027
Maharashtra plans to launch an air ambulance service on the Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Highway by early 2027 to enhance emergency medical response.
Air ambulance service to begin in early 2027
Coverage includes major highways like Mumbai–Pune and Mumbai–Goa
Focus on improving survival rates during the 'golden hour' after accidents
The Maharashtra government has announced plans to introduce an air ambulance service along the Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, with a targeted launch date in early 2027. This initiative aims to provide rapid medical assistance to accident victims, significantly improving emergency response times across major roadways in the state.
The proposed air ambulance service will not only operate on the Nagpur–Mumbai route but will also extend its coverage to the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and the Mumbai–Goa Highway. This expansion is designed to enhance the overall emergency medical infrastructure, ensuring that critically injured individuals can receive timely care at hospitals and trauma centers.
Officials emphasize the importance of the 'golden hour'—the first hour following a traumatic injury—when prompt medical treatment is crucial for increasing survival rates. The state is currently in the process of finalizing standard operating procedures, obtaining necessary approvals, and initiating the tendering process for service providers.
For the city of Nagpur, this service is particularly vital, as the Samruddhi Mahamarg serves as a key corridor connecting it to Mumbai. The air evacuation capability is expected to minimize delays in transporting severely injured patients to specialized medical facilities, thereby improving health outcomes.
Looking ahead, the success of the air ambulance service will hinge on its operational readiness, the availability of medical infrastructure, and effective coordination among emergency response teams. As preparations continue, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact this initiative will have on road safety and emergency healthcare in Maharashtra.
