The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has announced a significant collaboration with various global organizations to develop International Adaptations of its Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology specifically for the Philippines. This initiative was highlighted during NCCN's participation in two major global cancer treatment conferences: the International Gynecologic Cancer Society annual meeting in Montreal from October 1-3, and the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology's annual scientific meeting in Manila from October 6-9.

This partnership aims to enhance access to effective cancer care and reduce treatment disparities in the Philippines. By tailoring the NCCN guidelines to local contexts, the collaboration seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations that are relevant and practical for healthcare providers in the region. Crystal S. Denlinger, CEO of NCCN, emphasized the importance of these adaptations, stating that they reflect a commitment to improving oncology practices through proven guidance.

The new guidelines will address several types of cancer, including B-Cell Lymphomas, Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer, and various gynecological cancers such as Cervical and Ovarian Cancer. These adaptations are being developed in close collaboration with the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO) and the Society of Gynecological Oncologists of the Philippines (SGOP), with support from the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS). All guidelines will be made accessible for free on the NCCN website in the coming months.

On October 6, a high-level meeting was convened by PSMO, the Department of Health, and NCCN to discuss strategies for integrating these localized guidelines into national health policies under the National Integrated Cancer Control Act. The meeting featured insights from Professor Jacek Jassem, who shared successful implementation models from Poland, reinforcing the importance of adapting global standards to local healthcare environments.

Looking ahead, NCCN plans to expand its collaborative efforts beyond the Philippines, particularly in gynecologic cancers, as indicated by a new Memorandum of Understanding signed with IGCS. This partnership aims to enhance cancer care globally through education and tailored guidelines. With over 90 international adaptations of the NCCN Guidelines already in place, this initiative represents a significant step towards improving cancer care for patients worldwide.
